Have schools banned too much?

There were only three things that we were not allowed to do in my primary and secondary schools; hitting, swearing and smoking. But now it seems that schools have banned so much that both the children and the teachers are not allowed to say or do anything!

1.       You can no longer sing Baa Baa black sheep in most schools.

No, seriously you can’t, that has been taken off the curriculum in at least five schools that I know of and many more around the country.

2.       You can’t say brainstorm

Apparently this is offensive; ask me how I don’t know.

3.       You can’t hug.

Some schools have actually imposed a ban on hugging because they see it as inappropriate and they believe it prevents people from getting their work done.

4.       You can’t say someone is special.

This is apparently offensive to anyone that requires special education, even if you don’t mean it in that respect (because no one should use it in that context) you can’t say special.

5.       One person can’t win.

My friends children recently had a little race, one beat the other and declared proudly “I’m the winner!” and the other followed with “I’m the second winner!” Apparently this is what they teach kids now because they can’t say one person is a winner, everybody has to win.

These are just a few of the things that schools have banned and the list is getting bigger and bigger every day.
